When you think of states with casino resorts, Wyoming is probably near the bottom of your list, but that is about to change. Wyoming has not one but two casinos that allow you to stay and play, but the casinos are only one attraction. This insider's guide will convince you that Wyoming isn’t just another fly-over state but a state teaming with culture and marvelous casinos.

Wyoming?

Yes, Wyoming. Wyoming is mostly rural, but that is an advantage that makes its casinos hidden treasures. Wyoming is home to one of the country’s largest and most majestic state parks, but it is also home to numerous other natural attractions. The state also has a thriving Native American population, so you will be immersed in their art and culture while visiting. Both Wyoming’s casino resorts are owned and operated by native tribes on native land.

Play

Wyoming has a few more casinos and plenty of off-site parimutuel betting facilities, but the Shoshone Rose and Wind River Casino are the two largest casinos with the most variety of gaming, from slots to table games.

The Shoshone Rose Casino specializes in slot machines, with over 400 machines on the floor. There are multiple styles of slot machines, from more traditional slots to newer designs like the Wonder Four tower, which allows up to four players to play on one machine. Although there are a lot of machines on the floor, the layout is fantastic, and the room feels spacious even on the busiest nights. The Shoshone Rose also offers some table games, but not as many as its sister casino.

The Wind River Casino is Wyoming's largest resort casino, and with that comes many perks. On the gaming side, you will find everything you could hope for in a class three casino. There are rows upon rows of slot games in all shapes, sizes, and themes, and that is only the beginning. Wind River also offers more table games than any other casino in Wyoming or even close to the state’s borders. Wind River is a large casino with plenty of space to explore and find your new favorite game.

Stay

They could not be considered casino resorts without a place to stay. Both casinos have comfortable rooms, but one does offer a bit more than the other.

The Shoshone Rose offers rooms ranging from standard to suites for those who want to feel home away from home. The hotel offers all the amenities you would expect from a hotel, like TVs in all the rooms, Free WIFI, and a pool and hot tub. During the summer months, a hanger door is opened so you can enjoy the pool while taking in Wyoming’s gorgeous landscape.

The Wind River Casino is meant for overnight stays with so many amenities. First, this casino is made for those who are road-tripping because it has a dedicated parking lot for RV travelers. For those who would rather get a room, Wind River has you covered with top-of-the-line rooms with features like 48” TVs and Sealy mattresses. Unfortunately, the Wind River Casino does not offer a pool, but they offer jacuzzi tubs in their suites and pet-friendly rooms if you travel with your four-legged friend.

Eat

There is plenty to eat and explore outside of the casinos, but sometimes you want a night in, and these casinos both have you covered with standard American cuisine and local favorites.

When you stay at the Shoshone Rose, you can dine at their in-house restaurant, Deka-Guy Hee. What you can expect from this restaurant is classic comfort foods at unbelievable prices. You’ll feel like you got mom’s cooking with 1990s prices. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so no matter what time you stop in, you are in for a treat. If you are looking for a change of pace, there are plenty of local and chain restaurants just outside the casino in Lander, WY.

You have even more options if you stay at the Wind River Resort. Your first option is the Buffalo Sports Book restaurant, which is exactly what you would expect from a sports restaurant. They have reasonable prices and a variety of food for the whole family to enjoy. If you want a more upscale dining experience, Wind River has you covered there, too, with The Red Willow restaurant. They offer some less-expensive starters and a kids menu, but their dinner menu is more upscale, with prices to match.

If you are looking for more of an on-the-go pick-me-up, Wind River also has you covered there. The Buffalo coffee shop is open all day for coffee and small treats, and there is a convenience store on site where you can pick up snacks and other essentials for your stay.

Explore

Both casino resorts have plenty to do inside the casino but also have room to explore outside. Since the casinos are on native land, there are plenty of historical sites and museums about the native peoples and the history of Wyoming. Wyoming also has some of the country’s most beautiful natural sites, making it the perfect place for a hike. Local shops provide unique items made by locals, so you can’t find them anywhere else, making it the perfect place for some shopping.

Plan Your Next Stay

With two excellent options, the biggest question you should have is which one to choose first. No matter which Casino you choose to stay and play at, you are guaranteed good times with good people. So, come to Wyoming and eat great food, meet great people, and hopefully win a little money while enjoying the local culture.
